FAQ / Most common repairs

Scooter does not move

  • Make sure that the power cord securely attached to the battery.
  • Make sure that the battery is fully charged
  • Make sure that the alarm system is off
  • Make sure that the ignition is on by turning the key clockwise
  • Does the brake light light up only when using the brake, or is the brake light always on? If the brake light is on even when not using the brake, then the brake sensor could be broken and this is preventing the scooter from moving.
  • Can the scooter be moved easily by pushing when the power is off? If not, then the problem is likely in the motor or controller

The scooter seems slow and powerless

Make sure that the battery is fully charged. A good idea is to charge it overnight. Also make sure that the tire pressures are on a right level. 2.0 – 2.2 BAR is a good pressure for this model. Also make sure there’s no drag in the brakes.

The top speed of the scooter is lower when driving uphills or driving on unsteady surfaces (sand, gravel etc.). Also a very high load will reduce the top speed.

Battery indicator shows full charge when standing still, but the charge level goes slightly down when driving

The battery indicator shows the most reliable result of the battery charge level when the scooter is driven by stable speed on an even ground.

The battery indicator can show too high level of charge when driving downhill or when the scooter is standing still. It can show too low level of charge when driving uphill or accelerating.

Battery indicator shows full charge when standing still, but the charge level goes rapidly down when driving

This might mean that the battery is bad. But first make sure that the battery is really fully charged! Here are some common reasons why it might actually not be fully charged:

  • The charger is broken
  • A wrong charger has been used (60V lithium charger would be right)
  • The charger has not been properly plugged to the wall socket or to the battery socket
  • There is no electricity in the wall socket that was used for charging (try using the socket with another electric device)

Brakes make noise when driving

Especially new scooters might have this problem. The brake pads touch the brake disc slightly, and this makes the sound. The fix is to use the scooter normally for some time. The brake pads will wear just enough to not touch the disc anymore. If the problem remains, try cleaning the brake discs with brake disc cleaner product. If the brake disc is not straight, that could also cause the sound. In this case replace the brake disc. Also cleaning the brake caliper from dirt is a good idea.

Some other relatively silent noise occurs when driving

This is quite normal for vehicles with many moving parts. It’s worth noting that these kind of noises are normal for  nonelectric scooters too, but the sounds can not be heard because of the loud combustion engine. In most cases these noises are totally harmless and may go away as the scooter is used for some time.

The fenders are touching the tyres

There’s not much space in between the tyre and fender. The fenders must be adjusted carefully so that they don’t touch the tyre. It may be a good idea to drill new holes to the fender for the screws for better adjustment. Creative solutions are welcome. Also make sure that the tyre pressures are not overly high, since the diameter of the tyre is higher if the pressure is high.

Is it possible to make this scooter go faster?

No. Making this model go faster would also make it illegal to drive the public roads.

Steering does not feel smooth, front fork acts strange when braking

The problem might be with the steering stem bearings being too loose or broken. See if there is undesired movement between the front fork and scooter frame when pushing the scooter back and forth against the front brake. If there is movement, try tightening the bearings just enough to stop the movement. To access the bearing, remove the big nut and washers near to the start/stop button. Then loosen the two bolts on both sides of the lower connective part of the front fork. Then the connective part can be slided higher to reveal the locking nut of the bearing. Note that by pushing the scooter back and forth against the front brake you can also see if the screws holding the front brake are loose. Also front suspension can bend a little when pushing against the front break.

The suspension is too soft / too hard

The stiffness of the suspension is always a compromise between different sizes of users, so it’s impossible to please every customer with the same components.

Riding feels bumpy

Brand new tyres can be a bit out of shape at first, but riding the scooter normally for some time will likely fix this. If an old scooter start behaving differently than before, then there is more likely something to fix.

Riding feels twitchy, power output of the motor is not steady

The connectors of the controller should be tested by pulling the single wires gently. Sometimes there are wires that are not securely attached to the connectors and may come loose. This kind of bad connection may cause twitchy ride. Fix the bad connection.

The lights are not working properly

Likely the problem is with the wiring of the lights. Measure if there is current coming through the wires. If not, then replace the wiring. If the light unit is broken, replace the light unit.

The built in rear lights in the rear fender are not working

Check the wiring under the fender. In some cases the spinning wheel has touched the wires and caused the wiring to wear out.

The icons on the light switch indicate that there should be long and short lights, but it only works as an on/off switch

True, the icons are misleading. This version of SCOGO only has one brightness level for the lights.

Customer wants to buy motor insurance

It’s not possible to have this kind on insurance in Finland for a light electric vehicle. A good home insurance package should cover the driver and the scooter in case there’s an accident or if the scooter is being stolen.
